Tears of the Silenced by Misty Griffin Goodreads Summary: Misty Griffin's story ─ Surviving child abuse, parental betrayal, sexual assault, and Amish cruelty. A true crime memoir:  When Misty was six years old her family started to live and dress like the Amish. Misty and her sister were kept as slaves on a mountain ranch where they were subjected to almost complete isolation, sexual abuse and extreme physical violence. Their step-father kept a loaded rifle by the door at all times to make sure the young girls were too terrified to try to escape. They also knew that no rescue would ever come because only a couple of people even knew they existed and did not know them well enough to care. Amish Sexual abuse:  When Misty reached her teens, her parents feared she and her sister would escape and took them to an Amish community where they were adopted and became baptized members. Misty was devastated to once again find herself in a world of fear, animal cruelty and sexual abuse

Top Ten Tuesday   (Most anticipated releases of the 2nd half of 2019) From Here to You (Crash and Burn #1) by Jamie McGuire (Review) Tears of the Silenced by Misty Griffin (Review) Can't Wait Wednesday Where'd You Go Bernadette by Maria Semple (Review) I recently found this show on Hulu, and it is currently on Freeform (formerly ABC Family still confused about the new name), but I'm obsessed!! It follows 3 girls during their jobs at a magazine and their lives in New York.  The writing and humor reminds me so much of my friends it's crazy, I'm making them all start the show this week. “No matter how bad home is, it is still home, and home is something that will always

Book Review: From Here to You

Image
From Here to You (Crash and Burn #1) by Jamie McGuire Goodreads Summary: As Darby Dixon sits in a tiny Texas church bathroom on her wedding day holding a positive pregnancy test, she realizes that of all the bad decisions she's made in her life, marrying her abusive fiancé would be the worst. Book Review: Vox

Image
Vox by Christina Dalcher Goodreads Summary: Set in an America where half the population has been silenced,  VOX  is the harrowing, unforgettable story of what one woman will do to protect herself and her daughter. On the day the government decrees that women are no longer allowed to speak more than 100 words daily, Dr. Jean McClellan is in denial—this can't happen here. Not in America. Not to her. This is just the beginning. Soon women can no longer hold jobs. Girls are no longer taught to read or write. Females no longer have a voice. Before, the average person spoke sixteen thousand words a day, but now women only have one hundred to make themselves heard. But this is not the end. For herself, her daughter, and every woman silenced, Jean will reclaim her voice.   My Review: 4/5 Stars Vox was a well-written novel about men silencing feminist, or all females rather. They are limited to only a 100 words a day. I don't know about you but I say that much just over breakfa

Book Review: The Accident

Image
The Accident by Natalie Barelli Goodreads Summary: If only she'd said no...   Katherine  knew she’d had too many drinks, but they were only going a short distance. And as  Eve  pointed out, it was late, there was no traffic anyway...  Now, Katherine would do anything to turn back the clock.  If anyone ever found out about the accident, it would ruin Katherine’s life . But no one needs to know because Eve was there too, and she’s going to help make it all go away. Except  something's not quite right with Eve , and by the time Katherine realizes that… It's too late. My Review: 3.5/5 Stars At first I saw similarities with the new Netflix show Dead to Me, but I think its a bit of a reach with 1 or 2 coincidences. I guess I've just been obsessed with the show. Both kept me engaged and predicting possible outcomes the whole time. A big difference was I didn't get it all right in the book. The characters of Katherine (Kat) and Eve were interesting, I nev
