Book Review: The Shack

The Shack by Wm. Paul Young

Goodreads Summary:
Mackenzie Allen Philips' youngest daughter, Missy, has been abducted during a family vacation, and evidence that she may have been brutally murdered is found in an abandoned shack deep in the Oregon wilderness. Four years later in the midst of his "Great Sadness," Mack receives a suspicious note, apparently from God, inviting him back to that shack for a weekend.

Against his better judgment he arrives at the shack on a wintry afternoon and walks back into his darkest nightmare. What he finds there will change Mack's world forever.

In a world where religion seems to grow increasingly irrelevant The Shack wrestles with the timeless question, "Where is God in a world so filled with unspeakable pain?" The answers Mack gets will astound you and perhaps transform you as much as it did him. You'll want everyone you know to read this book!

My review:
4/5 stars
After hearing raving reviews from friend after friend I had to see what it was all about for myself.  It was not at all what I expected, but it was worth the read. It changed the way I thought and I could not put it down.
This book is a must read for anyone struggling with forgiveness or relationships. And quite frankly I think it's a must read for everyone, anyone could find something in this book that they would be able to learn and grow from. It will leave you craving a better relationship with God while also feeling completely safe and comfortable with God’s love for you.
Having just been through a dark time in my own life this book was a great reminder on God’s grace and His presence with us at all times. He will never leave us and He is there in every step we take during the good, bad, hard, happy, sad, and seemingly normal times.
Also while the movie was done wonderfully, it did NOT do this book justice!!
“THE SHACK is a beautiful story of how God comes to find us in the midst of our sorrows, trapped by disappointments, betrayed by our own presumptions. He never leaves us where we find us, unless we insist.” – Wes Yoder, Ambassador Speakers Bureau
