Book Review: The Five People You Meet in Heaven
The Five People You Meet in Heaven by Mitch Albom
Goodreads Summary:
From the author of Tuesdays with Morrie, a novel that explores the unexpected connections of our lives, and the idea that heaven is more than a place; it's an answer.
From the author of the phenomenal #1 New York Times bestseller Tuesdays with Morrie, a novel that explores the unexpected connections of our lives, and the idea that heaven is more than a place; it's an answer.
Eddie is a wounded war veteran, an old man who has lived, in his mind, an uninspired life. His job is fixing rides at a seaside amusement park. On his 83rd birthday, a tragic accident kills him as he tries to save a little girl from a falling cart. He awakes in the afterlife, where he learns that heaven is not a destination. It's a place where your life is explained to you by five people, some of whom you knew, others who may have been strangers. One by one, from childhood to soldier to old age, Eddie's five people revisit their connections to him on earth, illuminating the mysteries of his "meaningless" life, and revealing the haunting secret behind the eternal question: "Why was I here?"
My Review:
4.5/5 stars
I came across this book because it on the list I have for the Rory Gilmore challenge. This one being only 196 pages made it a quick and un-daunting task. And after hearing the accolades of the author I decided it was a must.
It did not disappoint. Eddie would meet someone from his past or a complete stranger and they would make sense of why a certain life event occurred. It was a great reminder that everything happens for a reason and to look at the big picture it all aspects of life.
The book is full of life lessons relevant today. Here are 2 of my favorite quotes:

"No story sits by itself, sometimes stories meet at corners and sometimes they cover one another completely, like stones beneath a river."
"Strangers are just family you have yet to come to know."
