Book Review: A Court of Thorns and Roses

A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J.  Maas

Goodreads Summary:
Feyre's survival rests upon her ability to hunt and kill – the forest where she lives is a cold, bleak place in the long winter months. So when she spots a deer in the forest being pursued by a wolf, she cannot resist fighting it for the flesh. But to do so, she must kill the predator and killing something so precious comes at a price ...

Dragged to a magical kingdom for the murder of a faerie, Feyre discovers that her captor, his face obscured by a jewelled mask, is hiding far more than his piercing green eyes would suggest. Feyre's presence at the court is closely guarded, and as she begins to learn why, her feelings for him turn from hostility to passion and the faerie lands become an even more dangerous place. Feyre must fight to break an ancient curse, or she will lose him forever.

My Review:
4.5/5 stars

Fantasy is not usually my genre, but this book came highly suggested to me. It reminded me of Divergent meets Beauty and the Beast, and I loved every second of it. The beginning was a little slow for me, but I also think with how different the genre was then what I'm used to took me a beat longer to wrap my head around the storyline. However by the middle to end I couldn't read fast enough.

The character development of Feyre was really great. From the beginning she is a brave smart girl, but she is carrying the weight of her family on her shoulders. Maas developed her to into an even stronger, smarter character who finally was prioritizing herself all while not losing the family aspect that she is clearly so passionate about.

I cannot wait to get started on the second book in this series, I have a feeling things are only going to get more  complicated for Feyre especially with her love life.
Have you read any of Sarah  J. Maas' books?
